Wayne County Recycling Policies
Wayne County passed a Solid Waste Management Law which makes recycling mandatory for all residences, institutions, industries, commercial locations, and public areas, as required by New York State Law. Effective January 1, 2011, the curbside collection program operated by the Western Finger Lakes Authority was discontinued. In accordance with the Wayne County law passed September 28, 2010 (See the link below.), private trash haulers must provide recycling collection to their customers to the same extent they provide trash collection.

Residential Recycling:
- Trash haulers are responsible (as of January 1, 2011) for providing recycling service to their residential customers.
- Please contact your trash hauler for collection, schedules, and materials preparation requirements. Here is a list of Wayne County Haulers.
- The trash haulers are responsible for delivering the recycling to an appropriate recycling center.

Mobile Home Parks and Apartment Complexes:
- Trash haulers are responsible for providing recycling service for their commercial customers, including mobile home parks and apartment complexes.
- Residents who live in parks and complexes should contact their manager or trash hauler directly with questions about recycling.
Drop-off Sites:
Town of Ontario:
· Location – Ontario Highway Department,
6449 Furnace Road.
· The first day of operation will be January 8, 2011.
· There will be no charge to residents for the drop-off of recyclables.
· The site will be operated on Saturday from 8:00 AM to noon and staffed by K&D employees.
During the Saturday operation K&D will also collect household trash at $0.10 per pound ($0.09 for senior citizens).
Town of Williamson: Drop-off at the closed Town Landfill on Pound Road. Times and cost are the same as the drop-off at the Town of Ontario above.
Village of Lyons: Drop-off at Village DPW Saturday 8 a.m. - noon.
Institutions and Businesses
- Schools, other institutions and businesses are required to recycle. Trash haulers are able to
provide a recycling program which includes mandatory materials.
